GES Vision Statement:

We believe our students at Gunpowder Elementary should learn in a rigorous, responsive, and safe learning environment where culture and diversity are recognized, accommodated, valued, and respected.  Our teaching staff will demonstrate high expectations for all learners.  We will promote a learning environment that is driven by interest, ability, and learning style to meet the strengths and needs of our learners.  Families are recognized as partners in the learning process.  We embrace communication between and among staff and community as we work to create the best learning opportunities for all students.

In our efforts to keep all Gunpowder families and community members informed about school initiatives and events, please take a moment and read the below information.  Thank you for your ongoing support. 

Grade 5:

  Tonight is our Farewell Assembly at Perry Hall Middle School.  Students should arrive at 5 PM.  Parents will be allowed into the meeting room at 5:20, after a brief rehearsal.  The program is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM.  We look forward to celebrating with you. 

Last Day of School

: The last day of school for ALL students in grades K-5 will be Tuesday, June 13th.  Both Monday, June 12th and Tuesday, June 13th will be half days, with dismissal of students at 12:15 PM.  Report cards will be distributed to students on the last day of school. 

Lost and Found:

  Our Lost and Found racks continue to be overflowing.  Following the last day of school, all items remaining will be donated to a local charity/donation center.  Please feel free to stop by school to check to see if any of the belongings are your child’s.

BOX TOPS!!  We will be collecting BOX TOPS again next school year.... over the summer, please remember to save your Box Tops!!!!

 

Volunteer Training

The Baltimore County School System requires that all volunteers must complete the volunteer application and participate in an online orientation/training session once every year.

The BCPS Application for Volunteer Services and Training sessions and are now available online!

Step 1: Complete the BCPS Application for Volunteer Services. This can be completed on line by going to www.bcps.org under Parents, then click “Application for Volunteer Services” along the side panel.   

Step 2: Complete the ONLINE volunteer orientation at http://bcpsvolunteers.md.safeschools.com/register/0c626573  

Or you can get to this orientation through www.bcps.org under Parents, click either “Volunteer with BCPS” or “BCPS Online Volunteer Orientation” along the side panel.  You will receive a certificate to print out once you successfully complete the online orientation training.    

Step 3:  Print and Submit both the application and the valid training certificate to the school in which you intend to volunteer.  Both documents must be submitted at the same time to be accepted and reviewed by the school staff.

Once the application is reviewed and training has been verified by our GES secretary, Pat Thal (pthal@bcps.org), you are ready to volunteer!  If you have any questions or need any further assistance with the completing the volunteer application/orientation, please feel free to contact Lisa DeIaco, School Counselor (410-887-5121 or ldeiaco@bcps.org).
